A World Without Walls

A World Without Walls is part of our health themed creative arts programmes for people with disabilities and/or mental health problems. Participants choose their own health-related themes and subjects to focus on.

Our first course was funded by Awards for All Scotland and was held in the Out of the Blue Studios in Edinburgh.  The theme for this course was:  " Things That Make Me Feel Good".  As the weeks progressed, we looked at different aspects of photography such as how to compose a photograph, depth of field, using lighting for unusual effects and black and white photography.  Participants would bring photographs  that they had taken during the week between classes and gradually, distinct 'stories' emerged.

One participant photographed objects or people that enable her to do the things that she enjoys.   For another, the focus was on texture.  This participant explained that because he is unable to touch and feel objects, photography gives him a chance to experience textures in a different way.

An exhibition of photographs from this workshop will be held in the Out of the Blue Studios in the spring.

We are currently fundraising to provide more photography workshops at Out of the Blue and for other agencies. Visit our JustGiving page for more information.
