Social Inclusion and the Arts

A key aspect of our work is the sharing of learning concerning innovative and effective approaches to promoting health in 'risk groups' and enabling vulnerable children and adults to lead more fulfilling lives. One strand  of this work is to facilitate access to creative and artistic activities for people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to do so and provide an outlet for them to display the results of their artistic endeavours.

Our aim is to enable socially excluded young people, people with learning disabilities and people with mental health problems to work together on creative projects.  Our projects will provide them with opportunities   to take part in artistic and creative endeavours and through exhibiting their work in our Gallery, raise awareness in the wider community of the abilities and potential of socially excluded groups.   It will also provide examples of good practice  for statutory authorities to consider, as well as assisting with advocacy issues and improving the mutual understanding of shared problems and the need for shared solutions.  By facilitating positive risk taking, we aim to enable people to have an ordinary life in the community.
